Dune Flowers

Dune Flowers

Spanish Dance II.
Date:  2009
Size:  108cmHx  77cmW   43”H x 30”W
Materials :  Hand dyed cotton, polyester and silk, printed corduroy velvet, other commercial fabric.
Techniques:  Hand dyeing, soft edge quilting, burning, couching, applique .
Owner: Cynthia Morgan
Design Concept:  I bought the remnant of printed corduroy velvet in Salamanca, Spain. This was not a usual fabric choice for me but I loved the ‘movement’ suggested in the design.  Immediately after this purchase we had a dynamic performance of Flamenco Dancing.  I associated the colour, movement and drama of the dance with the fabric patterning and designed two quilts with this inspiration – one with a horizontal format and the other a vertical format.
